National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM), created in 1999, was initially designated by Congress. The purpose is to learn more about the history and recognition of the US armed services, the individuals who serve, and their achievements.

The month remembers, honors, and recognizes all military personnel, those men and women who have served throughout our history, those now serving, their families, and those who have given their lives in defense of the United States, including members of the National Guard and Reserves, retirees and veterans, and more than 90 million Americans over the past 250 years.
Funds raised during this month go to The Armed Forces Children's Education Fund, Inc. and other non-profits geared at assisting those who serve, have served, and their families.
